Course Description & Objectives
Objectives:
This course aims to introduce and explain what are the horizontal and vertical boundaries of firms and why they form strategic alliances, joint ventures, diversify, and merge. It also provides explanatory frameworks for how firms compete through price and quantity competition, by differentiating product characteristics, and by allocating resources to cost reducing technologies and new products. Finally, it looks at strategic issues that firms engage in such as creating entry barriers, strategies of selling, and issues of compensation and the motivation of management.
