Course Description & Objectives
Description:
In our increasingly complex world, understanding the practice of leadership is critical – the practice of influencing people to meet the challenges that will enable them achieve important individual and organizational goals. This course provides a foundation for leadership practice. Designed for professionals from diverse work backgrounds, the course builds upon the experiences of the participants and aims to enhance their capacity to lead with and without authority, across boundaries, and from any political or organizational position.
The course aims to take the participants on a journey of self-discover and building inner stability as much as it is aimed at equipping them with essential leadership skills. The course will enable participants to understand important leadership skills, clarifying the relationships among key concepts – leadership, self-management, authority, power, influence, politics, negotiations, change management, decision-making, and leadership styles – to provide a practical and coherent theoretical framework for exercising leadership. In addition, the course will focus on exploring the challenge of managing the inevitable personal stresses and dangers of leading. The course will use a wide range of pedagogy tools involving lectures, case discussions, role plays, self-assessment instruments, and simulations to discuss various aspects of leadership. The course draws from several disciplines: business management, philosophy, spirituality, history, literature, sports, communications, and psychology.
