Course Description & Objectives
This course is designed to acquaint participants with theories of organizations and their evolution in their respective social contexts. The primary objective is to help participants examine the basic question in organizational behaviour: "Why do organizations behave the way they do?". Alternative ways of answering this question from diverse theoretical bases will be explored. Sociological roots of organization theory and the impact of the specific social context on organization theory will be explored. Participants will have opportunities to (a) study some of the classical bases of organization theory, (b) explore the current developments in organization theory, and (c) study in detail, one specific topic in organization theory chosen by each participant.
