Course Description & Objectives
This purpose of this doctoral course is to develop holistic understanding of the advanced concepts in innovation field. The course builds on the core course of Strategy & Innovation.
 
The literature discussed in this course covers advanced topics such as microfoundations of innovations within firms, value appropriation strategies, and learning from failed innovation. The course will also focus on more detailed innovation literature from the capabilities based view, and its linkages with external environment. Finally, it touches upon contemporary topics such as open innovation and innovative platform strategies.
 
The emphasis of this course will be on a detailed understanding of issues at the interface of strategy and innovation. This course will be of particular interest to those interested in doing advanced research in context of innovation intensive firms.
 
The course will take place in form of discussions and critiquing of research papers. Supplemental readings and exercises will be provided as and when necessary.

Final grade will be awarded on the basis of performance in the following components.
  • Paper discussion, pre-class submissions: 30%
  • In-class exercises: 30%
  • Term-paper: 40%
    • Nomological map on a research topic, review of seminal papers, identification of research question, research design: 20%
    • Final submission: 20%
