Course title Advanced Topics in Social Science Research Area Organizational Behaviour Credits 1.00

Instructor(s)
Prof. Vishal Gupta

Course Description & Objectives
Description:
The course builds on the insights and knowledge obtained in first two years of quantitative research methodology courses and provides a hands-on training on advanced methods of empirical research like mediated-moderation, moderated-mediation, multi-level modeling and longitudinal data analysis. The course will blend theory with practice and will introduce the participants to advanced data analyses techniques and modeling methodology. The course will be based on a combination of theoretical and practice-oriented sessions that will provide working knowledge of statistical software like R and SPSS.

Learning Objectives:
Upon the completion of this course, the participants would:
  1. Understand the idea of mediated-moderation and the technicalities involved in the analysis of data collected using these designs.
  2. Understand the idea of moderated-mediation and the process of testing for its presence in the data.
  3. Understand the basics of multilevel modeling and the issues involved in its testing. Understand the concepts of aggregation statistics (rwg, ICC1, ICC2) and the process of variance decomposition (random-slope/random-intercept models).
  4. Understand the concepts of longitudinal data analysis and the technicalities involved in it.
  5. Get hands-on training on statistical analysis packages like R and SPSS.

Pedagogy
This is a 1 credit course. A combination of lectures, presentation and class-room exercises will be used. Participants are expected to familiarize themselves with the assigned readings and come to class prepared to participate in class discussions.
